Argentina Approves Mobile Fuel Stations, Extends Hydroelectric Plant Concession

Buenos Aires, Dec 12 (NA) -- The Government has enabled the figure of Mobile Service Stations within the regulatory framework for the sale of liquid fuels. The measure was ordered by the Secretariat of Energy through Resolution 504/2025, published this Friday in the Official Gazette. The norm establishes the procedure and technical and registration conditions for the operation of portable tanks intended for retail supply. The resolution, processed by the Argentine News Agency, considers that mobile service stations are a 'fundamental tool to guarantee the supply of fuels in those localities that lack fixed stations within a considerable radius.' According to the considerations, the purpose is to reduce the distances and transportation costs for consumers, in addition to contributing to the productive development of regional economies. The Undersecretariat of Electric Power of the Ministry of Economy was ratified as the overseer of the operation. Likewise, the resolution invites the province of Chubut to appoint a representative to collaborate with the Undersecretariat during this period. Separate procedures were approved for the 'Portable modular station' and the 'mobile service station tanker'. The mobile mode is presented as a 'novel alternative that resolves local supply in safe conditions' due to the lower costs involved in the proper maintenance of the facilities. The Secretariat of Energy had already authorized the use of tanks on the ground and the implementation of mobile service stations. This latest decree defines Mobile Service Stations as 'portable autonomous tanks that are fully equipped for the transport and supply of hydrocarbons.' The authorities justify the implementation by stating that mobile stations allow for 'rapid installation and relocation', offering flexible solutions compared to the construction of facilities that require underground tanks. In regulatory terms, the resolution incorporates the authorized operators for sale under this modality into the Register of Liquid Fuel Outlets. Buenos Aires, Dec 12 (NA) – The Secretariat of Energy has extended the transition period for the Futaleufú Hydroelectric Power Plant, in the province of Chubut, until June 15, 2026. Its concession, managed by the company Hidroeléctrica Futaleufú S.A., had expired on June 15 after 30 years of operation. This is stipulated in Resolution 503/2025 published today in the Official Gazette, which extends the deadline originally set in September and had been extended to December 12 through a previous resolution. According to the considerations of the norm, the measure is adopted 'to preserve the safety of people and goods located in the River' and to guarantee 'the operational continuity of the hydroelectric complex' without interruptions to the public service. The Futaleufú plant was privatized in 1995 when then the Ministry of Economy awarded 98 percent of the company's share package to the company Aluar Aluminio Argentino S.A.I.C., in accordance with the current concession contract. During the transition period, the concessionaire must continue to be in charge of the hydroelectric complex and comply with all its contractual obligations.
